American Discovery Trail: 2,000 Miles

As of this morning, I have walked 2,002 miles since starting in Delaware nineteen months ago. That puts me right around Audubon, Iowa, population 2,053, and home of Albert the Bull. Albert the Bull is 30 feet tall and 33 feet long and has been there since 1964, and this is exactly the sort of attraction that Jackie and I would drive out of our way to see if we were to ever drive through Iowa, which we probably will not.

I made it to 2,000 miles, still well short of halfway across this trail (2,870 miles to go), but every 1,000 miles is an accomplishment. I walked more miles this month than in December or November, so that is progress, even if it has not been terribly impressive. Weather here is still cold and about to get colder, but by the end of February, it should start warming up. Only 28 days in February, and I will spend six of those at bridge tournaments, so February may not be the most productive month.

When I showed Jackie the big cow, she was reminded of another roadside attraction, so here is a bonus picture:

This is the Longaberger Basket Company headquarters in Newark, Ohio, near Columbus. Definitely worth a look and a picture if you are ever nearby.
