| Balanced Rock at Arches National Park |
My walking has taken me past the 45th milestone on the American Discovery Trail: Moab, 111 miles into Utah. Moab is next to Arches National Park, so I will post a few pictures from our visit to Arches back in the fall of 2022.
Arlo and I get 10,000 steps or more in on good days, but good days are more and more limited by bridge and the heat. Tomorrow it will be over 70 degrees by 8:00, and somewhere in the low 70s we reach a point at which Arlo starts to get very worn out if we walk too far. We still walk when it is warmer, but we cannot walk too far. Tomorrow morning, it will reach 70 degrees at about 8:00, so maybe we can get in a good walk if I can get up early enough. Another benefit of getting out early is that the sun is not too intense.
The next segment is one of the longest on the trail, south and west through Canyonlands National Park to Hite, Utah, 172 miles. I have old pictures of Canyonlands to share as well.
A good picture of Arlo running full steam, taken by Jackie. You cannot let a dog run free in a national park; this was taken off the side of the dirt road we took to the back entrance of Arches. Very different from the front of the park, where there is a gate and a visitor center. At the back, there is just a sign by the dirt road telling you that you are entering the park.
The Courthouse.
Tower Arch. I believe this is the largest arch in the park, about an hour walk from the road (and an hour back), a walk I took by myself while Jackie and Arlo waited for me at the parking area.
